If you detest all music written during the last 12 years, then
I'm your man.
Fresh jazz Christmas Carols mixed with stale Cat Stevens covers.
All the Broadway songs that you're sick of topped off with Mel Torme hits.
Request from over 1500 mediocre ballads or American Pie.
If this sounds like your cup of tea, I'm yours for a mere $34.99
/ per hour (not including tux).
Cheaper if you've got a grand piano. Call (201) 251 8436 (no agents please)
Available Sunday - Friday (check out Chadwick's
on Saturdays)
Seriously, . . . I've been getting paid for this stuff for over 25 years so I'm either good or the world is full of tasteless deaf people.
Though I can't see around the equator,
I know that the cross still exists.
I smile to remember
the nights that I had
And imagine the nights that I missed.
Divorced by a pair of blue oceans.
Enforced by commitments I love.
My heart still remains
on the Nulabor Plains
With the Southern Cross shining above.
Australian Friends and memories
Not only does Currabubula NSW, a minute town of less than 100 people, whose 4 pianos I used to tune, have some web sites, Yahoo gives it its own category! Curra-what, a diddy co-authored by former Curra-resident (till Noralunga burned down) John Charles (of RSL Mardi Gras fame), was written as a joke. It was performed (under the influence of Toohey's New) at the National Country Music talent quest (1979) in Tamworth by a makeshift band, including newcomers John Cal on slide trombone, Mark Paton on spanners, Steve Charles (Curra-child) on bass, radio Superstar Bob Lipman on tin cans and yours truly on fiddle. We finished third. Several months later it was recorded (thanks to Mike Mooney and Jim the doorman of the RSL club) and featured Rhonda Burchmore's recording debut (cackling laughter).
See who's playing in Tamworth this week?
Write to Barney Kathy and Did - The Pritchards of Cudgen - who proved that having a web-site can wake up some 20 year-old ghosts.
I was thinner when I used to come here.
Smaller too.
Younger.
I was afraid to come here, not as a child,
but today.
I was afraid of those same screen doors,
- afraid of the path down to the pool,
- afraid to climb the falls,
- afraid to leap off.
But I did, as if to hope that the plunge would
wash away those fears.
- It did not.
I was afraid even to look at the falls,
embarrassed that the falls might express disapproval of my aged state.
"Where is that fearless child?", it might ask.
So I avoided its stare and pretended to look at other things.
The water was cold.
Much colder than I had ever remembered.
Instead of refreshing me, the falls tried to freeze my limbs.
"What did you expect... the warm waters of your youth?", it yelled.
"That water has long since flowed downstream."
"It will not return."
And as I leave I vow that I too shall not return.
But I know the dreams of my youth will return.
And the water of the dreams will be warm.
Warmer with each dream.
And I'll once again return, timidly pass through
those same screen doors,
- nervously make my way down to the pool,
- and sheepishly look at the falls, hoping to see a warm smile.
Thanks to the Internet, I've found my great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grandfather, Johann Hotz, born 1540 in Wertheim, Germany. Unfortunately he has passed away.
